FAQ

Dental implants in Malaga The solution to tooth loss

What are dental implants?

They are small pieces made of titanium that are placed in the bone through oral surgery. They are a solution to replace lost teeth and are not visible to the eye. They perform the work of the roots on which crowns or prostheses will later be placed to replace the lost tooth in appearance and functionality.

What is the intervention like?

The constant technological advances we carry out at Clínica Tafur allow us to carry out virtual planning of the intervention, with which you can see how the implants will look before surgery. During the intervention we achieve maximum precision thanks to the software that allows us to guide you in real time.

How long does an implant last?

In the vast majority of cases, they can last even more than 20 years, always depending on the care and dental hygiene that the patient carries out afterwards. For this reason, it is vitally important to visit the dental clinic regularly for maintenance check-ups to check their condition.

A different treatment for every need

There are many uses for dental implants: they can replace one or more teeth, they can be specific for patients with little bone, or they can even be made of a different material. We describe them below.

Single dental implant

Single dental implants are used to replace a tooth. The implant acts as a root and a single tooth is placed on top of it. Dental implants for incisor teeth are different from those used for the rest of the mouth.

We are specialists in the placement of dental implants in Malaga, more specifically in complex cases, such as dental bone loss. At Clínica Tafur, we are pioneers in bone regeneration, giving you the opportunity to recover lost bone tissue. This makes it possible to place standard dental implants or to apply innovative techniques such as DIVA, which involves the placement of bone simultaneously with the insertion of the implant. We also consider alternatives such as zygomatic implants. After a personalized diagnosis, we present you with all the available treatment options.

In the event that many teeth have been lost, we will consider performing a complete oral rehabilitation. This may refer only to the upper jaw, the lower jaw, or both. The number of dental implants to be placed to support a fixed denture will depend on the previous study and the amount of bone available.

Dental implants in Malaga are mostly made of titanium, a material that is biocompatible with our bodies and completely safe. If you are allergic to metal, or for reasons of preference, at Clínica Dental Tafur we can place zirconium dental implants, the most resistant white ceramic currently.

Technology

All on 4 Technique in Malaga

This technique is used in Implantology to rehabilitate complete arches in patients who do not have any teeth or who need to recover all their teeth.

It is a technique promoted by the commercial company Nobel Biocare a few years ago, which consisted of placing 4 or 5 dental implants, placing the most posterior ones at an angle or tilt.

This angulation of the most posterior implants is performed to avoid anatomical areas such as:

In order to avoid the need for bone grafts or maxillary sinus lift.

La falta de altura de hueso disponible en la zona de los molares inferiores.

Normally, 4 dental implants are placed using the classic technique, but sometimes a further 5th implant can be placed. All of these factors depend on the patient’s bone; both the height, width, and existing bone density.

Implants oral surgery

Replacing teeth with implants

In addition to the recommended treatment, oral surgery is also responsible for the prevention, study, diagnosis and rehabilitation of oral pathologies.

This type of intervention is indicated, for example, for the removal of wisdom teeth, alleviating the problems that these pose for oral-dental health.

Oral surgery is also responsible for the treatment of problems in the oral mucosa, alterations such as frenulums, or the extraction of benign cysts.

There are 3 oral surgery techniques, the decision of which to use
will be in the hands of the surgeon. Whichever procedure is decided on will not influence the general clinical results.

Conventional oral surgery

In this session, we will also explain the different materials that can be used to manufacture the pieces.

PLANNING AND SURGERY

The second appointment can be the day after the first and its duration depends on the number of dental implants to be placed. Prior to this appointment, our team has analyzed your case and planned the surgery with precision software that allows us to place the implants in an atraumatic manner.

Dental implants in Malaga
by Dr. Daniel Tafur

“Dental implants are a safe and proven technique that has been used for more than 40 years by doctors such as Salagaray, who placed his first juxta-osseous implants in Madrid in 1956. From his school, Dr. Ballester, years later, inaugurated the first Master’s Degree in Implantology and Oral Rehabilitation in Spain, in collaboration with the universities of New York and Paris.

This Master’s Degree, which I successfully completed, earning an award for the best research work of my class, has allowed me to have a global and updated vision of current Implantology. However, science is advancing by leaps and bounds and, currently, we incorporate advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques in Implantology into our daily clinical practice. In fact, in our center, we have computer programs that allow me to plan the placement of implants on a three-dimensional X-ray of the patient.

This program allows us to make surgical guides to place the implants in the same position that we have previously planned. The result is a more modern and predictable implantology, and less traumatic for the patient.”

Computer-navigated surgery
at Clínica Tafur

We currently offer navigated surgery to patients seeking dental implants. The great advantage over guided surgery is that appointments are reduced as the 10 days of manufacturing the guide are avoided.

Diva technique by
Dr. Daniel Tafur

Tafur Dental Clinic takes a further step in the incorporation of new surgical techniques such as the DIVA implant, which allows the same results in a less invasive intervention and shorter recovery times.
