Como bajar la inflamación de la cara por un flemón

What is it and what are the symptoms

Basically, the definition of a phlegmon could be stated as an inflammation that directly affects the dental gingiva and that is generated in 99% of cases due to the accumulation of tartar and bacterial plaque.
First it attacks the dental gingiva, to later penetrate the pulp itself, finally reaching the root of the tooth itself.
This inflammation is full of pus inside it and it is important to treat it in time, before it can attack the maxillary bone of the person who suffers from it.
The main undeniable symptoms of suffering from phlegmon are the ones we list as follow. They are usually the most common but not the only ones:
  • Generic discomfort
  • Fever and headache
  • Stabbing pain in the affected area that usually appears suddenly.
  • Suffering from halitosis
  • sensitive teeth, regardless of whether they are hot or cold foods or drinks.
  • Finding difficult to eat or even to be able to open your mouth regularly.

Por que aparecen los abscesos dentales

Main causes of thooth abcess

As we mentioned before, phlegmon occurs mostly when infection occurs due to bacterial plaque. But an abscess or phlegmon can have other origins like the ones we describe now:
Due to some type of dental trauma, which causes the patient to lose part of a tooth.
Having cavities that have not been treated effectively.
Suffering from a periodontal disease such as gingivitis or periodontitis. And if you want to know more about what a gingivectomy is, we will tell you everything!

Prevención al flemón

How to prevent phlegmons

The best way to prevent its appearance is, without a doubt, to follow a suitable dental hygiene. In other words, brush your teeth 2-3 times a day, use dental floss and mouthwashes.
It is also recommended, not only in cases of abscesses but in a regular way, to visit your dentist a few times a year, to prevent any type of oral disease. A phlegmon caught on time can be easily sorted out with a filling.

Remedies to get rid of inflammation

There are different types of natural remedies aimed at reducing face inflammation caused by phlegmon. Let’s see which ones are more in depth.

Mouthwashes with bicarbonate o salt

Both substances have highly antibacterial properties, so they are undoubtedly a great ally both to reduce inflammation and to alleviate pain. Thanks to these rinses you can prevent the infection from spreading in your mouth.
To do this, simply pour a tablespoon, either salt or bicarbonate, in a glass of rather warm water and carry out a series of mouthwashes, keeping the liquid inside the mouth for about 10-15 seconds. It is recommended to repeat the process about 3 times a day.

Vinagre de manzana contra el flemón

Apple vinegar

This kind of vinegar has very positive effects on our body. It helps you to reduce dental pain with its anti-inflammatory effect or it is even a great ally against halitosis, a symptom that accompanies phlegmon.
For its use you can wet the tip of a cotton swab and apply it directly to the area to be treated for a couple of minutes at least. Although you can also rinse, with a glass of water and a teaspoon of this apple cider vinegar, repeating this last process a few more times a day.

Sage or echinacea teas

Another way to reduce a phlegmon is to make a series of infusions or herbal teas, either echinacea or sage.
For example, sage has antiseptic properties and you will notice how phlegmon lowers its swelling quite quickly.
On the other hand, echinacea is a totally natural antibiotic. It has great properties for our immune system and the same happens with dental abscesses.
The best way to take these natural remedies is to drink a couple of teas per day of any of these medicinal plants.

Hielo contra el flemón como remedio natural

Apply ice on the affected area

Another natural way to reduce the swelling caused by phlegmons is by applying cold to the affected area, such as ice. It will help you considerably in this task.
To use ice, you just have to take a cloth or a rag and wrap ice cubes and apply it directly on the inflammation, which will gradually subside.
