Types of teeth whitening

Teeth whitening in the clinic

The dentist applies a high intensity whitening substance (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) which causes the release of oxygen, it is activated by halogen light and produces an oxidation of organic matter dental by changing the pigmented (colored) part into a colorless phase.

Teeth whitening at home

This treatment is generally complementary to the previous one. It consists in the manufacture of a custom-made tray, to which is applied a whitening gel of low intensity which the patient must wear at night.

Mixed teeth whitening

It consists of a combination of the previous two techniques. Teeth whitening does not weaken the enamel and usually provides long lasting results.

Laser Teeth Whitening

Laser teeth whitening is an advanced in-clinic whitening technique where a high-strength whitening gel is activated using specialised light to accelerate the whitening process. This allows stains to be removed more quickly and can produce visible results in a single appointment.

Many patients ask about products such as purple whitening toothpaste. We explain how they work and whether they actually whiten teeth.

Does V34 really whiten teeth?

Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Most adults with healthy teeth and gums are candidates. We check for decay, gum disease and existing restorations before whitening.

What’s the difference between in-clinic laser whitening and home trays?

In-clinic whitening delivers faster results in a single visit under supervision. Home trays whiten gradually over 1–2 weeks with custom-fit trays and gel you use at home.

Will whitening damage my enamel?

No when performed professionally and as directed. We assess sensitivity risk and use regulated gels with protective protocols.

How do you prevent or manage sensitivity?

We tailor gel strength and exposure time, use desensitising products and can space sessions. Most sensitivity is mild and temporary.

How long do results last?

With good care and occasional top-ups, results can last 6–24 months. Avoiding strong pigments helps maintain brightness.

Can I whiten if I have fillings, crowns, veneers or implants?

Whitening gels do not change the colour of restorations. We plan your sequence so shades match, and may refresh visible restorations afterwards if needed.

Do I need a check-up or a scale & polish first?

Yes. A clinical check and hygiene clean improve safety and ensure even results.

What should I avoid after whitening?

For the first 24–48 hours limit coffee, tea, red wine, coloured sauces and tobacco. Follow the aftercare we provide.

Is whitening safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Elective whitening is generally deferred during pregnancy or breastfeeding. We can advise on timing and alternatives.
